COMPOSITE FILLINGS

What is a Composite Filling?
When a patient has a problem tooth caused by decay, cracks or fractures, we repair it by removing the decayed or affected portion of tooth and filling it with a composite (white/tooth colored) filling. While durable, composite fillings are not meant to be permanent and may someday need to be replaced.
Why get a Composite Filling?
We use composite fillings to repair chipped, work, cracked, or decayed teeth. We also use these fillings to close a space between two teeth.
How does the Procedure Work?
We can usually complete a composite filling in one appointment. Typically, while the tooth is numb, Dr. Chao or Dr. Craw will remove as much decay as necessary. The space will then be thoroughly cleaned and carefully prepared before the new filling is placed. If the decay was near the nerve of the tooth, a special medication will be applied for an added layer of protection. The composite filling will then be precisely placed, layered, shaped, and polished – restoring your tooth to its original shape and function.
What Happens After Treatment?
It is normal for you to experience sensitivity to hot and cold when composite fillings are first placed on your teeth but this will subside shortly after your tooth acclimates to the new filling.
